Entrepreneurship

Being an entrepreneur isn’t really about starting a business. It’s a way of looking at the world: seeing opportunity where others see obstacles, taking risks when others take refuge.- Michael Bloomberg

Entrepreneurship

At Signature Preparatory, students in grades 6-8 participate in an Entrepreneurship course each year. This course plays a big role in giving students an education that will benefit them not just in the classroom, but in the real world.

The ideas and materials presented in the Entrepreneurship course align with the Signature Preparatory vision to help students Learn. Take Action. Never Quit!

How Our Entrepreneurship Courses Help Students Think Differently

When  students finish school, many of them move on to be employees at various companies in various fields—and many of them remain employees for the rest of their lives. While this approach may work for a majority of students, we at Signature Prep want our students to know that it is not the only option available to them.

We want our students to think differently, to recognize and appreciate the many opportunities available to them, and to work hard (and smart) in order to create the life they truly want to live.

Students at Signature Prep have the opportunity to take this Entrepreneurship course in 6-8 grade.

Our Entrepreneurship course covers topics such as:

  • Leadership

  • Conflict resolution

  • Communication

  • Self-reliance

  • Cooperation

  • Problem-solving

  • Finances

  • Sales

The course also gives students the chance to have hands-on experience with their own small business. We practice entrepreneurship at every level, from idea generation to execution.

Our students benefit greatly from hearing from real-world entrepreneurs. Part of our Entrepreneurship course includes learning from guest speakers, including business owners in our local community. Students are able to ask questions and learn what it takes to run a business in the real world, what it’s like to be your own boss, and what they should do now to set themselves up for future success.

Entrepreneurship Introduces Students to an Abundance Mindset

Our curriculum focuses heavily on the idea of a Growth Mindset—recognizing the crucial role that effort plays in academic growth and success. A related concept taught in our Entrepreneurship course is that of the abundance mindset.

Coined by Stephen Covey in his book The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, an abundance mindset is all about believing that there is enough to go around—enough wealth, enough success, enough happiness, and so on. This mindset fosters optimism and creativity, both essential in entrepreneurship.

By combining the ideas of the Growth Mindset and the abundance mindset, Signature Prep helps students recognize their potential, and believe that success is within their reach.
